The traditional Icelandic weaving technique uses sheep's wool in the weft, or the horizontal threading, looped into the warp, or the horizontal. It was used as an outer layer to keep sailors warm on their journeys dating back to the 13th century. The varafeldur is such a unique and striking style, one having the ability to weave their own story into it only adds to the lore. Exploring different ways to approach this technique has given inspiration in the forms of upcycling different materials and reimagining what this technique could be incorporated into. Beginning with the standard approach provides a foundation for deconstructing this method and reimaging through this brand.
