Shahini Fakhourie

As a young girl I was taught to sew by my grandmother. That introduced me to design and sparked my love for fashion. Having worked in the industry for a number of years, I became disheartened by the impact the fashion industry has on the environment and vowed to make sustainability a core value of mine.

As a Jamaican-American fashion designer & textile artist based in Miami, Florida I have completed national and international residencies in textile design in Maryland and Iceland. I have also been awarded arts grants during the course of my career, including the Artist Access Grant and the MAS grant. As an artist, I explore subjects such as femininity, empowerment, and immigration, interpreting them through textures and colors. My work has been featured in a variety of publications such as 5 ELEVEN Magazine, House of Solo Magazine, Stylist Magazine and L’Officiel Italia and Arabia as well as exhibited in a group and solo exhibition in Miami. I have completed Babson College’s WIN Growth Lab Accelerator and recently been accepted into the Nest Artisan Guild.
